Email PDFs from your print dialog

Here's how to add the option of emailing a PDF from the print dialog:

1. Go to your Library folder on your main hard drive (also called the root-level Library folder) and look for a folder called (w/o quotes) "PDF Services". If there isn't one (and there probably won't be) create one.

2. Make an alias of your favorite email application and put it in that folder.

3. Now there should be a button in the bottom left of the Print dialog, represented by a PDF icon. Choose your email application from the list that pops up when you click it and choose your email application. Mac OS X will make a PDF of your document and attach it to a new message in your email app!

Bet you didn't know Mac OS X could do THAT!

Apple has begun its campaign against OS X for Intel pirates with a new release of its developer's testing OS software for Intel.

OS X for Intel is now at version 10.4.2. It implements new ways to prevent piracy of the software. This follows numerous reports that earlier builds of the software have been released without authorization through file-sharing systems.

Developers have taken these pirated software builds and managed to make them work on numerous Intel-based processors, with some reports even claiming success getting Mac OS X to work on processors from AMD.

Multiple anecdotal reports suggest that OS X for Intel boots up and performs faster that the OS does on today's Macs.

To prevent this, Apple has ensured that applications built using its new OS X software build will not function on earlier iterations of the OS.

Apple is expected to apply stiffer protections in future, as the release of the first Intel Macs approaches.

Here's what they responded. Somehow, I don't think making a program for Macintosh would affect them in any way. They seem nice, but I just think they're trying to feed me a bunch of legal crap...

You can actually get Safari to emulate other web browsers! You just need the debug menu. To activate it, type in the Terminal (without quotes) "defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1" To turn it off, just do the same thing and replace the 1 with a 0 (zero).

Jim and The City of El Dorado

Jim had been going through this jungle for weeks, trying to find The City of El Dorado. He was an average guy, 5’ 8”, 160 lbs, a nice guy. Now he was completely lost in this forsaken jungle. “Ha! I’ll find the city in no time!” said Jim, to himself. What he really thought was that he should turn back, but he was lost. He had brought his Rand McNally map, but it didn’t cover this part of the jungle. “No wonder”, he thought, “No one would be able to come here without getting lost, there’s no distinguishing features.”

After a few more hours, Jim started to wonder how he got into this mess. Then he remembered. He was tired of his office job and low pay, so he decided to check out some books on starting your own home business. As he was reading one about eBay, a piece of paper fell out of it. It was an elaborately crafted map, supposedly to The City of El Dorado! He was cautious at first, consulting some experts. After a while, he came to the conclusion that it was in fact genuine. He was so excited he took some vacation time from his job and began searching.

After all these weeks in the jungle, Jim was beginning to wonder if the map was genuine. Then he tripped over something. Just a straight branch. By now Jim was so mad he kicked it and bark went flying, but Jim’s foot hurt like heck. It was like he...kicked...steel? He checked where the bark had flown off, and sure enough, there was metal under the bark. He peeled off the rest of the bark and there was a lever.

Jim had always been cautious with levers. He had watched one too many Indiana Jones movies. He decided he would stay on the lever’s base when he pulled it. He pulled the lever and...nothing happened. Relieved and angry at the same time, he decided to find his way back when the ground started shaking. Jim looked behind him and the trees were parting to make way for...”No,” Jim thought, “it can’t be...”, “The City of El Dorado!”, he yelled.

Yes, Jim had found El Dorado, the city of gold! The entryway was closed, though. Jim was all for rushing in, but then he thought that if the trees could part to reveal El Dorado, there could be traps here, too. He cautiously walked in. To his surprise, there were no traps on the way to the entryway. There was a lever by the entryway. He pulled it, not really thinking, and the ground right below him started to fall. Luckily, he jumped back in time. Then he realized there was another lever right next to him. He pulled it, and the ground closed, and the door started to open.

Jim could not believe his eyes! He saw a bustling city! He had always thought that El Dorado was abandoned, but now he saw hundreds of people. Several came up to him. “Someone has found us,” one said, “Take him to our leader,” said another. Jim thought he was doomed.

When Jim got to the leader of El Dorado, he was surprised. The leader didn’t look at him with wicked intentions at all. Instead he seemed calm, relaxed. He said, “Many years have passed since anyone has been smart enough to get to El Dorado,”

“But what about...” Jim started.

“Do not worry,” the leader interrupted, “the traps are non-lethal, no one has died trying to get to El Dorado. Would you like to stay here or take this gold in exchange for the map? If you decide to leave two workers will escort you out of the jungle. Take your time deciding.”

Jim struggled with the decision over the next week. He thought about living here, and his life back home. He didn’t miss his job, but he did miss his family and friends. After searching for so long for excitement in his life, he realized that what he really needed was waiting for him at home.

I have to use Netscape to post with formatting, or websites that balk at your web browser, or just give you trouble because you're using Safari. Coming soon, a new game from Mac Haven, where you can explore an entire world and find many secrets. Using Cocoa "programming by demonstration", this 2D game is still sure to be fun, even if the graphics aren't up to par. I'm not sure how long it will take to make this game, as it is in it's earliest production stages and I have an irregular schedule, I have no definite release date. Expect it to be fun, though. :)

An MMORPG for any Mac

OK, close your eyes, and imagine an MMORPG with friendly people, that'll work on almost any computer configuration, and, despite it's graphics, immensly addictive, and (insert drum roll) ba dummmmmm.....dummmmm...ba dummmmmm.....it works for the Macintosh! In fact Macintosh is the only operating system that is supported. :) It's called Clan Lord, the game that I only made a brief mention of in the last post. Hope you all have fun in Clan Lord. Oh, and if you see a Thoom healer named Kromatus, that's me. :)

Doesn't it suck that on Gamespot there is no Macintosh section? Sure, some of the games work for Mac, but it doesn't say so! It just says they're PC games. Unless you search for something like Clan Lord (I'll explain what that is in just a minute) you'll never find a Mac section. It's hidden. Anyway, I just wanted to vent about how ignorant people can get about Macs. Grrrrrr! >:(

My Pet Dog
